Posted By Administration, Wednesday, September 27, 2017

Multi-day event brings leaders, innovators in organization development together in Windy City

September 21, 2017 (St. Paul, Minn.) – The Organization Development Network is set to host their annual conference at the Loews Chicago O’Hare in Chicago, Ill. The multi-day event will take place from Saturday, Oct. 14 through Tuesday, Oct. 17 and will encourage participants to think differently about their work, not as intervention but rather as innovation and delivering impact.

The theme of the OD Network’s 2017 conference is “The Call of Our Time: OD Innovating for Impact” with plenary and concurrent sessions hosted by leading experts in leadership, business and community building. The conference will feature a blend of insight from thought-leaders and practitioners with hands-on action learning in multi-stakeholder client systems.

Featured on the conference schedule are:

  • The High-Performance, Horizontal Model: What Is It — and What Can We Learn from Maersk's Transformation? – from Howard M. Guttman, a renowned OD practitioner, author, and founder of Guttman Development Strategies; and Ulf Hahnemann, CHRO, Maersk.
  • What Time is It ... Are We Cracking Up or Cracking Open? – from Frances Baldwin, EdD, Founder of Designed Wisdom; Juanita Brown, PhD, Co-Founder of the World Café and founder of Whole Systems Associates; and Stephanie Brown, MSOD, Collaboration Designer and Graphic Facilitator.
  • The 21st Century Growth Culture: If Not This, What? – from Andy Fleming, CEO and Founder of Way to Grow, Inc., and co-author of An Everyone Culture: Becoming a Deliberately Developmental Organization with Harvard’s Robert Kegan, Lisa Laskow Lahey, Matthew L. Miller and Deborah Helsing.
  • A hands-on collaborative action session: Business Transformation in Organization Effectiveness: An Engagement with Allstate. During this unique opportunity, participants will work with Allstate executives to examine a real-time transformational challenge and apply their OD expertise to propose recommended interventions. Swiss futurist Jens U. Hansen will be leading the workshop activities.

There is a full schedule of pre-conference sessions available and OD Network will offer more than 40 concurrent sessions as well as CEUs for participants. View the complete OD Network conference schedule to plan a weekend itinerary.

“The pace of change we experience in the world today makes it almost impossible for complex organizations to stay nimble enough to effectively adapt their structure, so we focused on hosting a conference that paved the path for organizations to be creative, inspirational, and, most importantly, practical for their members,” said Martha Kesler, chair of the Board of Trustees at OD Network.

U.S. & Europe Organization Development Networks Announce New Partnership Agreement

Posted By Administration, Tuesday, August 29, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN (August 23, 2017) -- The Organization Development Network is pleased to announced a new three-year international partner agreement with OD Network Europe.

“This new pact will not only continue this important partnership, it will pave the way for increased understanding and solution management for organization development practitioners on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Martha Kesler, chair of OD Network. “The partnership brings OD practitioners one step close to understanding and addressing global organization development issues.”

In developing the new agreement, OD Network investigated what it means to be a superior performer as an OD professional in today’s world. As a result, they have begun to build The Global OD Practice Framework® which provides a resource guide with real-life examples that demonstrate the behaviors, skills and other characteristics necessary to be successful.

The NHS Confederation, based in London, England, focuses on representing and supporting their members on key issues facing health and care services. With this international partnership agreement in place, both OD Network entities are excited about leveraging this opportunity to engage other countries throughout the world.

“Building on our partnership with OD Network is a critical part of our mission to support organizations in becoming more effective and healthy through advancement of theory and practice of OD,” said Suzanne Padovani, co-chair of the ODN Europe Board. “Learning and sharing, we are stronger together!”

In Memory: Dr. Mila Baker

Posted By Administration, Thursday, June 29, 2017

We are saddened to share the news that Dr. Mila Baker died last week of a sudden cerebral aneurysm.

Former board chair Matt Minahan shared his memories of Dr. Baker:

Dr. Mila Baker

Mila was a young 71 years old, and touched many in our field as a teacher of OD, an educational administrator, an OD consultant, an author and speaker.

Mila was very involved in the OD Network, serving on the board for several years in the early 00s and as its chair in 2003, during which she led several important changes for the Network and how it operates.

She served on numerous OD Network project teams, including a branding project, a career development project, a mentoring and coaching project, and several committees. She was an adviser to board in 2010 and 2011, helping the Network steer itself out of a financial crisis and back into solvency.

I had the personal privilege to work with Mila on two projects. She led a major coaching program when she was internal at Merck, engaging dozens of OD consultants and coaches in a program which used a groundbreaking computer algorithm to match candidates' needs and interests with those of coaches.

Our paths also crossed as part of the Org Learning and Change consulting practice at The World Bank, including her long standing efforts to bring competency development to an organization that demanded it but didn't want it. She outlasted all the rest of us in her dogged determination to do what was right for the staff of the Bank, over above and beyond the call of duty.

We also worked together as members of NTL. When we formed Communities of Practice some 15 years ago, Mila was one of the first stewards of our Education CoP. And Mila was active in the OD and Change and Management Consulting Divisions of the Academy of Management, due to present a session in August in Atlanta.

I had the benefit of her wise counsel when I was in role on the board of the OD Network these past few years, during which Mila was always a ready ear and full of good advice.

I loved working with her and knowing her, and the more I did so, the more I loved it, and her.

I miss you, Mila.
