Request for Proposals

OD Network Conference 2008
Oct. 19-22, 2008, Austin Renaissance, Austin, TX

The RFP process is now closed. Those who have submitted will be notified of the status of their proposals in April.

Please read these instructions completely
before completing the RFP form online.

Conference Design Overview

Thematically, OD Network Conference sessions focus on “advancing the theory and practice of OD.” OD Network Conference includes keynote sessions, workshops and concurrent sessions, affinity group and networking meetings, social gatherings and other events. The OD Network Conference 2008 program team seeks proposals for:

  • conference concurrent sessions ( approx. 90 minutes in length)
  • pre- and post-conference workshops (in either a one-day or multi-day format.)

Our intent is to offer relevant and timely information which practitioners can apply. We seek a range of sessions in order to offer both foundational techniques and skills in OD (the basics) AND cutting-edge strategies and practices that further the field.

Participants appreciate case studies and best practices based on real world experience. We encourage you to involve clients when possible and to use experiential methods when appropriate.

Requested Topic Areas:

  • OD Strategy
  • Technology and OD
  • Inclusion and Workforce Diversity
  • Marketing and Managing an OD Consultancy
  • Organizational Change
  • Systems Thinking
  • Honing OD Skills and Techniques
  • Leadership and Talent Management
  • Measuring OD Impact and Results
  • Organization Design
  • Socially Responsible OD

Additional topics are welcomed and encouraged.

Who should submit a proposal?

OD Network seeks experienced and engaging practitioners and thought leaders from a broad range of OD practices and related fields including internal/corporate practitioners, external practitioners/consultants--those in public, non-profit and government arenas and academia. We strongly promote a diverse faculty. Speakers need NOT be members of OD Network to be considered.

Proposal Submission Process

Step 1:

Review the RFP form to understand the information that will be required to submit the proposal.

Step 2:

When you are ready to begin writing your proposal, click on “Start / Work on a Proposal.” You will be asked for your last name, and you will be given a Proposal ID that consists of some letters followed by a four-digit number. Make note of your proposal ID. Your ID will also be emailed to you. So that you do not have to complete your proposal in one sitting, your ID allows you to save your information, return and work on your proposal in as many sessions as you wish.

Step 3:

Prepare your proposal.

Step 4:

Submit the completed proposal submission document by clicking “Submit proposal.” Your proposal will be final and sent to OD Network at that time.

Proposal Review Process

Proposals are reviewed and ranked by multiple reviewers. The Conference 2008 program team seeks diversity in methodology, topics, sector focus, as well as experience and demographics of presenters—and may invite speakers in order to obtain a balance or perspectives which have not been proposed.

Feedback will be provided on request for proposals that are not selected.

When rating proposals, in addition to the points presented in the Conference Design Overview, reviewers will consider:

Clarity of the vision/mission of the proposal

  • Is the purpose of the proposal clear? What issues, problems or challenges does it address?
  • Are the intended outcomes clear?
  • Does the session provide enough value to justify a conference session?
  • Is the topic presented in a relevant and applicable manner?
  • Is the topic broad enough and timely enough to attract attendees?
  • Is the proposal most appropriate for this conference? Has the topic been presented previously?

Clarity of the design and delivery of the proposal

  • Is the design clear?
  • Are the design and delivery techniques appropriate for the session type? (workshop or concurrent session)
  • Is the design clearly aligned with the intent?
  • Is the design likely to engage and satisfy the participants? How will it benefit participants and what will they learn?
  • Is the session focused primarily on selling a product or service rather than providing information the participants can use?

Expectations of Presenters

  • Submit a summary paper for inclusion on the Conference proceedings CD
  • Make no substantive changes in content, process, names or numbers of presenters without notice and approval
  • Provide high-quality handouts to participants
  • Meet all deadlines for submitting photos, handouts, a/v requirements, and other Conference materials
  • Refrain from marketing their products or services
  • Agree to present in the general conference when they are scheduled

Benefits to Presenters

  • Exposure of your ideas
  • Recognition as a presenter at the OD Network Conference 2008
  • Networking with OD professionals
  • Reduced conference fees

Questions? Ideas or suggestions?
