Student Paper & Presentation Program (SPPP)

Call for Papers

The Organization Development Network invites graduate students of organization development programs to submit ORIGINAL papers for its annual Student Paper and Presentation to be held at OD Network Conference 2008 in Austin, Texas. Finalists are provided with free conference registration and may be considered for publication in one of the OD Network journals.  They are recognized at the OD Network Awards ceremony held at the conference.

Statement of Purpose

The OD Network launched the Student Paper and Presentation Program in 2002 to:

  • Provide a direct opportunity for graduate students of OD to write about and present creative and innovative concepts and practices for the larger community of OD practitioners
  • Present the learning experiences and innovative insights of graduate students in OD
  • Showcase the talents, competencies and experiences that graduate students in OD bring to the field
  • Engage academic programs, faculty and students in the ongoing activities and programming of OD Network
  • Link the importance of scholarship and practice to the expanding future of the OD field

Participation Criteria

  • All graduate students enrolled in an organization development or organization development-related program OR who are within one year of having graduated (May 2007) are eligible to enter this program.
  • The paper needs to describe a contribution to the organization development field that the author believes is a creative approach to examining the field of OD including but not limited to:
    • An original conceptual idea
    • An innovative case study
    • An imaginative intervention
  • The paper must reflect on and document organization development theory and practice.
  • The paper may not have been previously published or in the process of publication.
  • If the paper is accepted, the faculty sponsor AND the student will be asked to attend OD Network Conference 2008 in October. The student will be asked to present the paper at a concurrent session and will receive complimentary registration to the conference.

How to Submit:

Paper must be submitted by Monday, June 2 - Midnight Pacific Daylight Time (PDT)

Paper Selection Criteria (evaluation weighting %):

  • Discusses creative and innovative OD concepts and practices (25%)
  • Discusses ideas, experiences and learnings that advance the theory and practice of OD (25%)
  • Is well researched; draws on documented OD theory and/or practice (20%)
  • Is applicable in a wide range of OD interventions (15%)
  • Is well written and formatted - presented as submitting a paper for a professional conference of publication, including appropriate references, documentation and foot-notes (15%)
  • Papers should not exceed 4000 words in length, including references

Papers that do not adhere to these guidelines will not be considered.

Review Process

The Student Paper and Presentation Program committee conducts an anonymous review [blind process] following the criteria listed above.  Based on the overall scores received in the review process, a finalist(s) will be selected and invited to present at OD Network Conference 2008.
