Proactive
Practice Development
This
is a practical workshop for internal consultants, external consultants,
current and future managers of OD, HR, IS, and other staff units, would-be
entrepreneurs, and other folks interested in making a living while using
their skills helping make organization sbetter places to work. This
workshop provides a practical learning laboratory in which participants
can learn about the business of planning and managing a professional services
practice. The workshop is designed for individuals:

managing
a professional services group (OD, HR, IS) within a firm;
-
working/managing
within a professional services firm;
-
own their
own consulting practice; and
-
are planning
their own consulting practice.

Outcomes
As
a result of this program, participants will gain insight into:
-
ways to
help their clients and prospective clients understand their consultative
capabilities;
-
ways to
help clients and prospective clients decide to engage them (from assessment
through proposal through “closing the sale”);
-
ways to
deliver not only outstanding work, but outstanding work that ensures referrals,
testimonials, repeat engagements; and
-
ways to
proactively build on one’s strengths when planning, marketing, or managing
a professional services organization.

will receive a complete set of handouts and an extensive resource list.

Facilitator
C.
Ken Weidner, II, Ph.D., is President & Director of Practice of ValueWorks,
Inc., which provides consultation and applied research in organization
culture, change & communication, and leadership development. Ken is
also assistant professor of organization development at Loyola University’s
Center for Organization Development, where he teaches a popular advanced
seminar, Managing the Consulting Practice. Previously, Ken was responsible
for leadership development and organization development at the University
of Chicago Hospitals’ UCH Academy, which received a “Best Practices” award
from the American Hospital Association for implementing a corporate university
in healthcare. His research, “Trust and Distrust at Work” received the
1997 American Society for Training and Development’s Dissertation Award.
He is author of the forthcoming book, Trust & Distrust at Work
(tentative title, Davies-Black Publishing, 2000). |
