|Making Meaningful Connections|
Making Meaningful Connections is the primary purpose of our OD Network! One of the greatest benefits of membership is the ability to connect with other OD scholars and practitioners, to share, learn, develop and expand the impact of our profession. With our Strategic Plan for 2017-2020, the OD Network is focusing on ways members can connect, grow and collectively increase our impact – all while strengthening our relationships and operations. All of the outcomes within the Strategic Plan are bound within two axes: Member Experience and the Global OD Practice Framework™.
We connect members through meaningful dialogue and engagement among people at the individual, group and organizational levels through regular interaction and outreach. Through OD Network meaningful connections, our members engage with other practitioners, make valuable business contacts, grow their skills and increase their impact.
There are three outcomes for the strategic element focused on Connect within the strategy. The first is ensuring that every member of the OD Network is welcomed and can easily align to the services and opportunities tailored to their needs. We are analyzing data, talking with members and potential members to understand what is working and what we can offer to increase membership value. Read more about our member focus in this month’s article, “How OD Network Members Connect,” by Lori Blander, the outcome owner.
The second outcome is global expansion. Board members and other volunteers are actively working to expand our global network. We aspire to represent 50 countries in our member population with at least 15 members per country by 2020. Sanjay Naik is leading this initiative and is the outcome owner for this area. Currently OD Network members represent 35 countries. We are excited to announce we have renewed our partnership with ODN Europe! We look forward to continuing the conversation with all our global members and to embracing a more diverse and global perspective on OD.
The third outcome in the Connect strategic element is ensuring the OD Network provides meaningful communications to increase member engagement. Volunteers are working with staff to develop a fresh and integrated approach to our communications. We are in the process of reviewing our website, improving our member communications (like the Network News you are reading now), expanding our social media and maintaining the quality of our standard publications including OD Practitioner and Practicing OD to ensure that they are easy to access and delivering value to our members. Detailed interviews are underway with each of our strategic outcome owners to understand the marketing needs and communications activities required to support their success. The MarComm team, led by Cindy Miller, who also owns this outcome area, will present recommendations to the board by mid-year for approval, with implementation planned for the second half of 2017.
