The Future of OD: Recent Successes

In May, OD Network Board of Trustees members Sherry Duda and Marco Cassone were invited as guest keynote speakers to the 2017 MSOD Alumni Conference hosted by Pepperdine University. Fellow keynotes included the esteemed Barbara Bunker and John Scherer. A description of Sherry and Marco’s presentation is provided below; the result was a dynamic discussion of the future of OD and the Global OD Practice Framework™.

For the extended Pepperdine learning community, this was the first time this accomplished group of veteran practitioners and current/prospective students had been able to engage in open dialogue exploring the number one area that keeps the larger OD community up at night: the impact of technology on social processes and how we are incorporating technology into our work.

Did you know that “cognitive technology,” like IBM Watson, will be widely available within the next 5 years? Is your workplace ready? Are you? “Efficient Design” is one of the top 5 capability areas within the Global OD Practice Framework™, which prepares us to translate salient information into actionable insights. In the face of radical innovation in technology, have you considered how the skills, knowledge and abilities associated with your OD role may need to adapt in the near future?

The OD Network would like to feature emerging pioneers and thought leaders who are bridging technology with OD in new and interesting ways. If you are aware of great work in this area, please let us know at

If you are/were connected to a graduate or doctoral OD program and/or local OD Network and/or other collections of OD practitioners and would like information on hosting a virtual or live keynote presentation similar to the description below, please also let us know at

Description of the May keynote at the Pepperdine 2017 MSOD Alumni Conference:

The Global OD Practice Framework™
In a recent study, the OD Network sought to identify the trends that will impact the role of the OD consultant of the future, and the competencies that will be required to drive superior performance. With input from nearly 1,000 global OD professionals, six trends emerged that will continue to change our world of work and require a new blend of capabilities, depicted as the Global OD Practice Framework.™ In this interactive discussion, you will hear from the founder of the Global OD Practice Framework™ and participate in creating a live resource guide with real-life examples that demonstrate impactful behaviors, skills, and other characteristics needed for success in today’s business environment.
