Casual, spontaneous and full of energy, Maryland's biggest city sits curved around a sheltered harbor; nearby are individual neighborhoods of red-brick row houses, marble mansions, dockside warehouses and modern skyscrapers.
Since the redevelopment of the Inner Harbor in the late 1970s, Baltimore has set the standard for urban renewal. While a good part of the city's action centers around the fun and festive Harbor area, where street entertainers, open-air concerts, fireworks and parades abound, the surrounding neighborhoods offer all sorts of interesting landmarks, unique shops and delicious restaurants. Wander around Fells Point, the oldest section of Baltimore, reminiscent of an old English village, complete with pubs and cobblestone streets. Go to the top of Federal Hill for a view of the city and harbor; visit Lexington Market, a Baltimore tradition that has been in continuous operation since 1782. Visit the aquarium and check out the imaginative creations at the American Visionary Art Museum, art at the Walters Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Or stop by Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles across the street from our Conference hotel. Baltimore is also renowned for its African-American heritage sites, plus festivals and cultural events that take place throughout the year.
"Charm City's" laid-back population greets its visitors with a friendly "Hi, hon!" in the unique Bawlamer accent. Learn more at www.baltimore.org and www.visitmybaltimore.com
