Message from the OD Network Chair and Executive Director
We are excited to welcome a new year and to bring you the best OD knowledge and event programming around — and especially to step into our new roles at the OD Network, Matt as the 2015 Chair of the Board of Trustees and Gail McCauley as OD Network’s Executive Director. (You can view our full bios here.)
Our vision for 2015 is to make OD central to creating effective and healthy human systems in an inclusive world community, by leading advances in the practice and theory of OD. The OD Network serves change agents by creating a global community for exchanging innovation, opportunities to interact with thought leaders, and access to leading edge practices. That’s how OD Network members create change and sustainable impact in healthy organizations, communities and beyond.
We are hugely fortunate that the OD Network is starting 2015, after four continuous years in the black, with positive net assets for the first time in memory! Many thanks to Marisa Sanchez, our outgoing chair; Laura Rudzinski, our outgoing Executive Director; and the 2015 Board of Trustees, who continue to steward our resources and steer us toward growth.
We’ve set some ambitious goals for the coming year: enlist 1,000 new members; create five new strategic partnerships to benefit our members; and co-create the 2015 Annual Conference in partnership with IODA, Our Field, Our World, Our Impact. In response to your feedback, we are beginning a broad, global consultation to develop the first-ever consensus based set of OD competencies and options for certifications for those members who are interested.
Our second overall strategic objective is to continue to expand the culture of openness and inclusivity within the OD Network, with particular focus on the actions of our board of trustees, our committees and our impact on the field.
Your feedback on OD Network publications and webinars this past year has been great. Our first edition of the OD Practitioner in 2015 was a special issue on non-profit management; we’re looking forward to a featured issue on “design thinking” later this year, knowing that the fall 2014 special edition on “OD values” was one of our all-time best. In addition, Practicing OD and OD Seasonings round out the publication family. Join us in a huge thank you to John Vogelsang, Dorinda Capole and David Jamieson for editing our family of OD Network publications. Thanks are also due to all of the presenters in our monthly webinars series, especially Mike Horne, our webinars host for 2014 and the first half of 2015.
We’ve just updated the Center for Professional Development on our website to include the best all-around library of OD tools and models available. Many thanks to Fred Nickols for creating this amazing collection and for making it available to the members of the OD Network, students, and the field. Further, we are creating new conversation and collaboration tools to support the participants in our Coaching and Mentoring Programs.
The OD Education Association (ODEA) has recently added more schools and is still growing. Relationships with our regional networks have also never been stronger, thanks to the leadership of Marisa Sanchez.
One of our newest products, Enterprise Membership, is designed to be the full-service spot for professional development for internals, offering the full suite of OD Network products and services, including no charge for all live and archived webinars, the full library of OD Practitioner issues (all the way back to Volume 1, published by Warner Burke in 1968), all of our toolkits, participation in the Internals Community of Practice, and a substantial discount for attending our conference. If your organization has five (5) or more OD/HR staff, consider Enterprise Membership as your best bet for a fully integrated professional development program for internals.
As you can see, 2015 will be a busy year. Please join us in thanking the four Trustees whose terms ended in 2014 — Elena Feliz, Mike Horne, Sanjay Naik and Marisa Sanchez. Please also welcome our new Trustees Jaya Bolman, Loretta Hobbs, Martha Kesler, Kris Lea and Zoe MacLeod. Your hard-working Board of Trustees and staff have our work cut out for us, for you, and for the field of OD.
Expect more detail next month about ways that you can contribute to the projects we’ve outlined by joining one of our standing committees or work groups. Contact either one of us or the committee chair if you’d like to contribute to the work of one of our committees.
Meanwhile, please be in touch if you have ideas, suggestions or questions.
Wishing you all the best in 2015,
Matt Minahan, Ed.D.
2015 Board of Trustees Chair
