Happy New Year


With the New Year upon us, many of us are setting resolutions on how to make a significant impact as OD practitioners. Read on for a few suggestions from your colleagues at the OD Network:


Resolution 1: Streamline to Focus on What Counts

Now is the time for OD practitioners to make good on their resolutions and to take a fresh approach aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness. You can do this by prioritizing what is most important to you this year. Identify three things you would like to achieve, take action now and stop doing other things that get in the way.

Your OD Network Board is working on this too!

Late last year, 839 of you shared what you are facing in the next coming years. Globalization and the impact of technology were highlighted as the two most impactful key trends that are changing our roles as OD practitioners.

You also noted these influencers:

  • The global, multi-generational and multi-cultural workforce,
  • Complex and fast-paced change and its impact on the workforce,
  • Collaboration and network-based organizations and teams and
  • The need for OD to demonstrate its value and ROI.

We recognize and agree with these trends, and, to our collective success, we are shaping our offerings to ensure that we are providing relevant tools and services to support you to tackle these opportunities.


Resolution 2: Grow Together

The New Year is here, and many of us are starting to think about acting on our New Year’s resolutions. You might generally focus on things like working out more often or eating a healthier diet; in addition, you may want to include a few New Year’s resolutions in regards to building your professional network.

There are at least three reasons why building your professional network is important:

1)    Meet professional colleagues who are eager to give and receive advice just in time…when you and your peers need it.

2)    Learn about OD opportunities or advertise directly to find qualified candidates.

3)    Develop friendships with others who share OD values and interests.

Your OD Network Board, with the help of leaders just like you, have planned multiple ways for you to connect with your colleagues in 2016. Activities and events include our New Member Group, Book Discussion Groups, and of course… the 2016 OD Network Annual Conference—“The Business of OD: Positioning Ourselves for Continuous Impact.” Mark your calendar now for Oct. 7- 10, 2016, in Atlanta, Ga.

 

Resolution 3: Get Into Action and “Just Do It”

We get more than 10,000 visitors a month on our website—many of whom are asking the question, “What is OD?” For some it is difficult to articulate the answer; however, our OD Network is clear on the competencies, methodologies and frameworks that we utilize to make a significant impact within our organizations, communities and teams.

 

Our new Strategy Committee is releasing the Global OD Network Competency framework early this year. The model defines the standards for our OD profession, provides us with a framework to calibrate our performance and defines a global, common language so we can communicate our work effectively to key stakeholders.

 

We have also redesigned our structure and committees to match your priorities. Join us by volunteering your time to grow our Network together. Don’t have time?
