Call for Nominating Committee Members
In benchmarking other member associations and examining best practices in association management, the OD Network Board of Trustees has decided to make a change to the process for electing members to the Board.
Our current practice is to invite members to nominate themselves or others to run for the Board. An informal group of trustees reviews the nominations and seeks out additional candidates for special skills or to help meet our diversity goals. Often, that has resulted in the exact number of candidates as we have open board positions, sometimes more, which has resulted in a winners-and-losers dynamic. In addition, participation in our elections has been too low to be representative of the full range of views and opinions of our members. After considering what other similar organizations are doing, the Board has decided to strengthen our election process on a pilot basis this year. Culture, Diversity & Initiative
What is Global Mindset?
"...living abroad expands your mental horizons and increases your creativity. However, merely traveling abroad doesn't produce these benefits."-Gail Naughton, as quoted in Tricia Bisoux, "Global Immersion" BizEd, 2007, Volume 6, Number 4, pp. 44-49.
Global mindset is the ability to think in global terms,
toview issues from multiple
perspectives, to be aware of the impact of culture on one's behavior and choices.
As companies seek new markets and embark upon product launches or full scale operations in far off countries, they must ask themselves: How can they
growculturally competent leadersthat are able to
build relationships in emerging markets? What skills and attitudes are required to overcome geographical, linguistic and cultural barriers? In fact, little agreement exists within the field of global leadership on which competencies and skills are necessary to be an effective global leader.
This resonates with my experience working in the field of global leadership development, that the elusive concept ofglobal mindsetis not quickly or easily developed.

Marisa Sanchez, Ph.D Regionals Committee Chair
Marisa Sanchez is a longtime OD Network member, having joined in the early 1990s when Fred Nader invited her to serve on a panel at an OD NETWORK conference.
Marisa recently served on OD Network's Board of Trustees 2012-2014.
"While I had been a long-time member of OD Network,I had never been involved with the operations orservice. Not only did it give me a chance to disadministration. I benefited so much from my boardcover how much work goes on behind the scenes to keep the organization running, but it gave me the opportunity to think about our field of OD - where it's been, where it's going, and the important roles that OD Network can play in helping to shape the field."
