List Purpose

The purpose of ODNet-Internals is to form a virtual community of like minded professionals who currently practice OD/OE inside an organization. We encourage participation from new internal practitioners. Professionals new to OD: check out our ODNet-NPLG [New Professionals Learning Group] list as well.

We sincerely hope that the "internals" list will provide a forum for discussion that does not necessarily subscribe to a particular viewpoint or ideology. Rather, we expect members to step outside the bounds of traditional thinking in order to explore opposing, diverse, and expansive ideas. An example would be the willingness to understand and explore organizational processes through many different lenses. The success of this list will not only be determined by members who are ready and willing to risk verbalizing their thoughts, but also by those that choose to participate through listening alone.

Who Can Subscribe

This list is open to anyone who can receive electronic mail, whether you’re a member of the OD Network or not. With this encouragement, please recognize the list is open to all people interested in the issues relating to OD as practiced by internal consultants. It will be the shared thoughts and input from these various perspectives that will allow us to have meaningful discussions. We particularly welcome people with diverse points of view on the world, our work, and the relevance of our work to our society and communities.

Since we will be discussing a variety of different issues that we face, the limit and range of the conversation we have on this list is potentially endless. In recognizing this, it is important that we maintain an environment that supports openness to all ideas, the willingness to receive and discuss differing perspectives, and the clear understanding that our goal is to support one another in our growth, development and contribution in the field.

Topics

Potential topics that can be discussed on the ODNet-Internals list include, but are not limited to:

  • Current attitudes of people toward their work, peers, and employer
  • Cross-cultural internal consultancy
  • Emotional dynamics in organizational life
  • Organizational psychodynamics
  • Process consultation
  • Marketing OD services internally
  • Resolving contract issues
  • Covert power structures and their impact on organizational culture and interpersonal trust
  • How leaders deal with and manage their own conflicts over dependency or control
  • Working with and partnering with external consultants
  • Operating an internal OD function in a chargeback environment

These are just some of the topics that might be covered but it is hoped that the dialogue will naturally lead to the most important and relevant issues that we’re facing in our work and life.

Subscribing

Subscribing and all other functions can be done easily using the subscription form. Follow instructions carefully.

We encourage you to write a brief note introducing yourself shortly after joining a list.

Sending to the List

When sending a message to the list, you may NOT send attachments (including Microsoft Outlook "vcards") or HTML content (colors, fonts, pictures). This is to avoid rare, but potentially serious, security problems including transmitting viruses to list subscribers.

Information on how to configure your email program (Outlook, AOL, Eudora, etc.) can be found at http://www.expita.com/nomime.html (click "Email Client Programs").

Changing Member Options

You can change or retrieve your password, set the To/From Digest, suspend mailings, and change your email address or name using the member options form.

You can set the "Mail Delivery" option to "Disabled" to suspend messages (for vacations, travel, etc. when you do not wish to receive mail) and reset it to "Enabled" when you return. This is easier than unsubscribing and resubscribing. You can set this option for all lists at once from any list.

Unsubscribing

For security, you will have to respond to a message sent to your email address to complete the unsubscribe process.

List Archives

The full text of the list archives can be searched - by any words in the text including author. The archives can also be searched by date. This is useful if you wish to follow a single discussion.

If you do not know your list password, request it be sent to you before trying to access the archives. We advise changing your password to something you can remember. You may make this easier by using the option to set the password for all lists at one time.
