The New Science of Great Teams

Members of great teams behave, think and feel differently to people in ordinary teams. They make a psychological shift to internalise the team’s shared identity to become part of their own sense of self – their own identity. It is called social identification and it has a profound effect on how people behave in teams. It is also a fantastically positive experience and if you have belonged to a great team you will remember what it can feel like; it is unforgettable. Teams like these are crucibles in which individuals flourish and excel. In this webinar I will introduce you to the research evidence and discuss its practical application.

Learning Objectives

To understand why some teams become great by introducing the concept of team identity, the compelling and overwhelming research evidence and the practical application in organisations to create teams that:

  • Perform better by a substantial margin,
  • Are more resilient,
  • Innovate more often and more effectively,
  • Create greater well-being and job satisfaction,
  • Reduce stress,
  • Cut infighting, politics and selfishness,
  • Lessen sickness absence and turnover intentions.
