Justice AND Inclusion: First Steps in the New Normal Inside and Outside our Organizations

We are living at an inflection point in our country and in our organizations. People of color are being more negatively impacted by COVID-19; we have witnessed the recent murders of African American women and men including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery among many others; and the protests in the streets in the United States and around the globe are calling on all people and organizations to take action.

Organizations must bring their voice to the discussion and actions for change to this New Normal. Many companies are saying they stand with #BlackLivesMatter and the protesters; however, the real question is will they take this moment as a time for significant systemic change. This moment is unprecedented and the potential for a 3rd Reconstruction in our society and institutions is upon us (the 1st Reconstruction was following the Civil War; the 2nd following the protests of the 1960s and the passing of the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights legislation).

In this session we will discuss:

  • How we as OD practitioners can have a significant role in addressing Social Justice and Inclusion and ensure sustainable and systemic change
  • The opportunity we have to accelerate change and ensure that organizations are doing more than lip service as they make statements in support of #BlackLivesMatter.
