From the Chair: Get Involved!

Gary Mangiofico headshotDear Colleagues:

It’s an exciting time at the OD Network! We continue to make considerable progress in our revitalization efforts to bring you the best practitioner association for OD professionals. Just a couple of highlights include:

Our 2018 conference volunteer committee members are collaborating with this year’s conference chair, Matteo Becchi (who just joined the Board of Trustees – YAY Matteo!) in building out what promises to be an exciting program this fall in Alexandria, VA. Our immense appreciation goes out to all of you who submitted proposals for the conference. The team is busy commencing the review process and we’re all looking forward to the knowledge and skills that will be shared. There are so many issues facing the field of OD today, so be sure to attend the conference, support your peers, and contribute your voice to the emergent dynamics. Also, if you’re interested, the conference committee is still looking for volunteers – so please do join!

Our membership drive is also underway! Recently, our in-depth review of OD Network offerings identified nearly 20 distinct benefits to being an OD Network member. Be on the lookout for communications from us that articulate these benefits and how to access them. So, I invite you to renew that membership, or perhaps sponsor a new member to join. If you know someone who hasn’t been a member for a while, please invite them back to discover the new work that is happening!

OD Network is run by OD Professionals for OD Professionals, and we rely on our member volunteers to make the magic happen! Become a part of furthering the voice of OD in the world!

Warmest regards,

Gary Mangiofico, Ph.D.
Chair, OD Network Board of Trustees

Lessons from Mars: How One Global Company Cracked the Code on High Performance Collaboration

Carlos Valdes-Dapena spent 17 years as Director and Senior Consultant for the Mars Organization Development and Change group. He was directly involved with brands like M&M’s, Snickers, Uncle Ben’s Rice and Wrigley’s Gum. There he won the company’s prestigious Global Make The Difference Award for his work on the Mars Framework for High Performance.

“Lessons from Mars” challenges the prevailing orthodoxy of corporate team building and offers an alternative approach to enhancing collaboration within organizations. Based on Carlos’s 20-plus years of experience working with teams and six years of research specifically on Mars teams, he offers a unique view into this closely-held private company and how it has unlocked the power of collaboration. Carlos will share the highlights of his research, talk about why conventional approaches to teamwork often don’t deliver stronger collaboration and present the Mars Framework and few essential tools.

In this active, engaging webinar, we’ll discuss the five common assumptions about strategy, based in deeply engrained thinking about organizations.
