Conference Highlight: Interactive Plenary Session

2019 OD Network Annual Conference: Agility & Resilience, October 17-20, 2019, Las Vegas, NV

As OD professionals we regularly design interactive interventions for our clients. Wouldn’t it be fun to be a full participant at times? At #ODN2019 you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in expertly designed participative workshops in nearly every session, including keynotes. During the keynote Navigating Complexity and Transformation through Resilient Conversations we invite you to engage in play, music, stories, and dialog. Prepare to participate in ideation, fun and application as four women interweave two compelling concepts for practice that can change your fundamental view of how we engage and how we can be resilient.

Joan McArthur-Blair, Jeanie Cockell, Jackie Stavros, and Cheri Torres will weave together conversations worth having and appreciative resilience to provide you with strategies to enhance agility, creativity, and performance, even in the face of complexity. Their practices draw upon the proven approach of Appreciative Inquiry, taking it to the level of everyday interactions and communication.

You will leave this plenary with two simple practices that will help you to engage with more impact in strategic conversations. You will learn to navigate complex challenges by fostering creativity and innovation. And, you will discover how to practice appreciative resilience as you ride the waves of hope, despair, and forgiveness in your work and life.

Over time, communities that engage in conversations worth having and appreciative resilience practices create a culture of resilience, engagement, and productivity – a healthy, vibrant environment that works for all. Friday afternoon’s keynote promises to ignite an intentional practice that will foster powerful conversations while building and reinforcing agility in your organization.

You won’t want to miss the other remarkable keynotes we have planned for you at #ODN2019. David Rock, Meg Wheatley, and Chris Worley will facilitate sessions on impactful, timely topics outlined in the full conference schedule. And we have a very provocative panel planned on the Intersection of Organizational Agility & Agile Teams with leading researchers and practitioners Chris Worley of Pepperdine, Rachael Narel of Benedictine, and SAFe Fellow Eric Willeke.

We hope you’ll join us. Register today to take advantage of early bird pricing and save $200!

Nonprofit Needs + OD Expertise = Social Impact!

The need for pro bono OD work is great. According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics (2018) the number of public charities increased by 28.4% from 2005-2015. Of those public charities, 66.9% (210,670) reported less than $500,000 of expenses — and this number does not account for those with less than $50,000 of expenses. These statistics highlight the significant need for OD support, specifically in the small nonprofit sector.

You can make an impact!  Join us for Social Impact Day on Thursday, October 17, at the 2019 OD Network Conference. Social Impact Day is a full-day pre-conference event where participants collaborate to provide pro bono OD consulting to area nonprofits.

Nonprofit needs + OD Expertise = Social Impact

Participants will have the opportunity to share methods and approaches with other practitioners in a small group setting, learn and have fun, all while helping make a real difference.

Social Impact Day gets the voice of OD into the world. It brings OD to people who otherwise might not consider asking for this work in their lives.

Interested? On the conference registration form, choose “Yes” for the Will you participate in Social Impact Day? option. Space is limited, so register now!

Emerging Practitioners Program to Launch This Year

The OD Network is moving toward the exciting launch of an integrated Emerging Practitioners Program that will debut with a happy hour event at the 2019 Annual Conference in Las Vegas this October. We aim to deeply engage emerging practitioners – which we are defining as anyone with seven or fewer years of experience in the field, regardless of age or education level – across the main pillars of the OD Network.

Our view is that emerging practitioners are the future of the field and the future of the Network.  By bringing them together to learn and contribute, we hope to build life-long connections to the OD Network.

The Emerging Practitioners Program will be cohort-based, enrolling people to serve on OD Network committees, thus bringing in multiple voices from across our diverse membership to inform the Network’s future.  In return, the emerging practitioners will get exposure to senior OD leaders, practice OD through their committee structures, and receive ongoing support and mentoring for their roles in the form of regular video conference calls. Occasionally, we may bring in guest speakers to these calls to talk about issues of importance to Emerging Practitioners.

If you are interested in the first cohort of the Emerging Practitioners Program, please send an email expressing your interest to Julian Chender at julian.chender@gmail.com. We are in the process of gathering names and the first cohort will launch after the Annual Conference. I hope to see you there!

Resilience and Transformational Change

Presented by Amanda Blake

The growing instability of our times challenges individuals and organizations to find more effective ways to respond to pressure and stress. While most of us are all-too-familiar with the fight/flight/freeze response, few people are aware of the cutting edge research on the evolution of the body’s stress response. Biology adapts over time, and there is increasing evidence that you can train your body away from fight/flight and towards more effective stress responses that better support thriving in these uncertain times. Join us for this experiential webinar where you’ll get to start practicing new stress responses yourself and learn how to bring the transformational work of embodied learning to your clients.

September 10, 1:00-2:00pm (ET)
Mind Blowing PowerPoint. No, Really!

Presented by Richard Goring

Why are most presentations so bad? Truly terrible? Few people enjoy creating, delivering, or watching PowerPoint presentations, so let’s change that. This session explores techniques to create mind-blowing presentations using nothing but standard PowerPoint. Want to know how to create visual slides? Manipulate images? Master animations? Make it interactive? And produce presentations that will astound your audience? Then come along for a masterclass in ways to capture your audience’s attention and help them learn.

September 24, 1:00-2:00pm (ET)
Solopreneurship & Running a Successful OD Consulting Practice

Presented by Dr. Jeremy Lurey

Nobody goes to grad school to become a salesperson. Yet as more and more of us transition out of our full-time positions, talented OD consultants at all levels are now being required to step up and build their independent practices. While this can be an exciting and exhilarating experience for some, it can also be quite daunting and bring great stress to many who have not learned the fundamentals of business development before. More than that, it can be incredibly challenging when consultants are still expected to deliver high levels of service to their existing clients while also trying to build their books of business. This webinar will help participants explore the key drivers for successfully building their own OD consulting practices.
