OD Network News - June 2014

Message from the Board of Trustees Chair, Marisa Sanchez, Ph.D.

OD Pomp and Circumstance

We can hear the music now as new graduates at college campuses everywhere celebrate their academic accomplishments. OD Network particularly wants to congratulate those graduates of our member OD Education Association (ODEA) schools

Seven graduate programs are officially members of ODEA, with another 35 affiliates. With leadership from board trustee Matt Minahan, OD Network founded the OD Education Association with the intent to establish, advance, and promote the body of knowledge required in OD education, via peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, collaboration on research, and certification of academic programs. The students, program directors, and up to five faculty members of each school automatically become members of the OD Network — 500 ODEA members as of today. ODEA's first major accomplishment was the establishment of the Essential Elements of OD curricula in 2010.

ODEA is now convened by David Jamieson, professor and department chair of Organization Learning and Development at St. Thomas University in Minneapolis, an ODEA member school. Dave convenes face-to-face meetings at the OD Network Annual Conference and the Academy of Management conference, and he leads virtual meetings of ODEA members periodically throughout the year. At this past OD Network Annual Conference, Richard Stackman from the University of San Francisco and Sherry Camden Anders of Alliant University took the lead in designing and convening a “student track” and reception to increase cross-school student relations and foster conversations of particular interest to graduate students.

The ODEA schools also lead the OD Network's two graduate student programs, the Student Paper Process and the Student Research Consortium, managing the process, coordinating the communications, reading the student papers, and providing them feedback. Debra Lindh, herself a 2013 awardee and doctoral graduate of St. Thomas, is coordinating both of those efforts for OD Network this year.

Having these 500 students and academic members of the Network has greatly enriched the OD Network this year, as, we hope, their membership has greatly enriched their knowledge and practice in the field of OD.

So, as "Pomp and Circumstance" fades out in the distance, we wish all of the ODEA graduates great success. Stay connected to this work and to our Network. Remember to Join ODN as full-fledged individual members! All the best to you as you take on your new futures.
